Charlotte, NC | February 22, 2010 – Jackrabbit Technologies president and cofounder,Mark Mahoney, has been chosen as one of the area’s Top 50 Entrepreneurs by Business Leader Media. Mahoney founded Jackrabbit, along with his partner, Mike Carper, in 2005 and has led the company to exponential growth and impressive market adoption over the course of its young five-year life. Jackrabbit provides web-based business management solutions for classed-based organizations in eight market sectors.
Mahoney was a 2009 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist and has been recognized by local and regional business and entrepreneurial-focused organizations, such as Charlotte’s BIG Council, as a valued leader and mentor.
The Business Leader Media’s Top 50 Entrepreneurs award process invites nominations from across the region, reviews and scores each for individual merit and then aggregates the top 50 from its submissions. In an awards ceremony today, February 22, 2010, the Top Entrepreneur will be named and all finalists will be honored. Each finalist will also be featured in the March issue of the Business Leader magazine.
Mahoney drew from his passion for youth sports and experience as a standout gymnast in first developing scoring software. He then moved on to develop a comprehensive web-based business management solution for those who manage cheer gyms, child care centers, camps, dance and gymnastics studios, martial arts schools, music schools, swim schools and those whose businesses offer combinations of these activities.
“We boot-strapped Jackrabbit Technologies while working full-time so we could continuously reinvest in the making the software comprehensive and the business viable as quickly as possible,” says Mahoney. “It has been a tremendous experience and I’m overwhelmed by being recognized for doing something that I enjoy so much.”
After just a couple of years, Mahoney had grown Jackrabbit enough to be able to support him as a full-time employee – in addition to the small customer support team that was already in place. Today, Jackrabbit employs 10 and expects to hire another team member during the course of the year. The company’s customer base grew from 950 in 2008 to today’s 1,200 mark and includes all 50 states and 10 countries.
